![]() ![]() On April 7, 2004, Governor Bob Wise signed legislation changing its name to Fairmont State University. It was renamed Fairmont State Teachers College in 1931 and Fairmont State College in 1943. In 1923, Fairmont State Normal School first offered a four-year bachelor's degree program in education, making the school a college. Hardway Hall, originally known as Fairmont Normal School Administration Building, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994. Hardway, which sits on a hill overlooking Locust Avenue. In 1893, the school moved into a new building at Second Street and Fairmont Avenue and, in 1917, to its current location in the building now known as Hardway Hall, in honor of former president Wendell G. By 1892 the designation of "branch" had fallen into disuse by FSNS. Construction began on a brick building on the northwest corner of Adams and Quincy streets later that year.įrom 1867 to 1892 the school was known variously as Fairmont Normal School, the Fairmont Branch of the West Virginia Normal School, the Branch of the West Virginia Normal School at Fairmont, a branch of the West Virginia State Normal School of Marshall College, but most commonly as Fairmont State Normal School (FSNS). On February 27, 1867, it was purchased by the State from the Regency of the West Virginia Normal School (formed as a joint stock company in 1866) and became a branch of the State Normal School of Marshall College. It was known as the West Virginia Normal School at Fairmont. The first private normal school in West Virginia was established to train teachers in Fairmont in 1865 by John N. FSU would plate a run in the top half of the second. Allard would score on a Falcon error to make it 2-0 after an inning. The Senators plated five runs the first two innings Allard started the scoring in game two, hitting a single to bring in Kailynn Parks. ![]() Grindstaff earned the win, pitch a complete game giving up 4 runs, 3 earned and striking out five. Linzey Allard, Honesty Holt, and Lavelle each had one hit. Morales finished the game going 2-3 at the plate with two hits and two runs batted in. ![]() Haley Grindstaff would hold FSU scoreless the final three innings. Morales came up big for the Senators, hitting a solo home run over the center field fence. Sharon Morales came to the plate in the bottom of the fifth. The Falcons would answer in the top of the fifth, scoring 3 runs, (2 earned). Fairmont would get a run in the top of the third, but D&E would add an unearned run in the bottom half of the inning to make the score 4-1 heading into the fourth inning. The Senators led 3-0 after two complete innings. Sharon Morales would bring Cossette home on a single to left field. In the bottom of the second Cossette smacked a triple to right center to bring in Rachel Jones and Maddie Lavelle. Trinity Cossette opened the scoring in game one. The Senators took game one 5-4 and followed that up with an 8-2 win in game two. Today, D&E swept the doubleheader with the Falcons. – Coach Elle Fracker's Davis & Elkins College softball team made Duvall-Rosier Field on the campus of Fairmont State University their home away from home this weekend. ![]()
